Everything you need to know about ProofChain

General

ProofChain is India's first multi-format intellectual property protection platform. We use blockchain technology to create tamper-proof timestamps that prove when your creative work existed. We offer purpose-built products for screenplays (ProofScript), books (ProofBooks), music (ProofSound), and legal documents (ProofLegal). Anyone can verify a ProofChain certificate for free at ProofVerify.

No. ProofChain provides timestamp verification, not copyright registration. A ProofChain certificate proves that your file existed at a specific point in time, which can serve as strong supporting evidence in disputes. Copyright registration is a separate legal process handled by the Copyright Office of India. We recommend using ProofChain as a complementary layer of protection — instant blockchain proof today, while your copyright registration is processed over months.

ProofScript is for screenplays, scripts, and teleplays. ProofBooks is for books, novels, manuscripts, and literary works. ProofSound is for music, podcasts, beats, and audio recordings. ProofLegal is for legal documents, contracts, NDAs, and evidence files. ProofVerify is our free public tool for verifying any ProofChain certificate — no account required.

No. Your file is processed entirely on your device. We use SHA-256 hashing to create a unique cryptographic fingerprint of your file in your browser. Only this 64-character hash string is sent to our servers. We never see, store, or have access to your actual file. This is a core design principle of ProofChain.

Technology

When you upload a file, we generate its SHA-256 hash locally on your device. This hash is then submitted to the Bitcoin blockchain via the OpenTimestamps protocol. The hash is aggregated with others into a Merkle tree, and the root is included in a Bitcoin transaction. Once confirmed in a Bitcoin block (typically within 1-24 hours), your timestamp becomes immutable — permanently recorded and verifiable by anyone in the world.

SHA-256 is a cryptographic algorithm that generates a unique 64-character hexadecimal fingerprint for any file. It has three key properties: it's deterministic (same file always produces the same hash), it's one-way (you can't reconstruct the file from the hash), and it has an avalanche effect (changing even a single character in your file produces a completely different hash). This makes it mathematically impossible to tamper with a file while keeping the same hash.

OpenTimestamps is an open-source protocol for anchoring timestamps to the Bitcoin blockchain. It was designed by Peter Todd and is used worldwide for document timestamping. It uses Merkle trees to efficiently aggregate thousands of timestamps into a single Bitcoin transaction, making the process cost-effective while maintaining the full security of the Bitcoin network. Anyone can independently verify an OpenTimestamps proof.

The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA) replaced the Indian Evidence Act, 1872. Section 63 of BSA 2023 governs the admissibility of electronic records produced by computer systems. ProofChain certificates are designed to comply with Section 63, which requires that the electronic record was produced by a properly operating computer system in the ordinary course of activities. This is the successor to the old Section 65B of the Indian Evidence Act.

ProofChain uses two independent anchoring systems for maximum credibility. Your file hash is submitted to both the Bitcoin blockchain via OpenTimestamps and a certified RFC 3161 Time Stamping Authority (TSA). Bitcoin provides decentralized, permanent proof. TSA provides an institutionally recognized timestamp. Together, they create the strongest possible evidence of when your file existed.

A Time Stamping Authority (TSA) is a trusted third party that issues cryptographically signed timestamps following the RFC 3161 international standard. ProofChain submits your file hash to a certified TSA, which returns a signed token proving the exact time your hash was submitted. This token is included in your protection certificate and is independently verifiable.

AI Analysis

ProofIntelligence is our AI-powered analysis engine that evaluates screenplays and manuscripts. It provides scores across multiple dimensions — craft quality, market potential, and audience appeal. Free analysis gives you 5 scores and Cinema DNA in 15 seconds. Pro (₹999) adds 8 detailed scores with a PDF report. Premium (₹2,499) includes scene-by-scene audits and executive summaries.

Paste your screenplay text on the analyze page. Our AI processes it in approximately 15 seconds and returns 5 basic scores plus your Cinema DNA — a breakdown of which filmmakers influenced your writing style. No account is required. Your text is sent to our AI provider for processing and is not stored beyond the request.

ProofIntelligence supports 10+ Indian languages including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, and English. You can type in your language or in English — we understand both.

AI Script Lab

AI Script Lab is a collection of 5 free AI-powered tools: Roast My Script (get a brutally honest AI roast), Dream Cast (AI picks the perfect cast for your story), Box Office Predictor (will it be a hit or a flop?), Writing DNA (discover which filmmakers shaped your style), and OTT Fit Score (which platform would buy your script?).

Yes, completely free. No account needed. No limits. Use it as many times as you want. Results are shareable on WhatsApp and Twitter.

Yes! The Roast My Script tool lets you choose from famous comedians in your language's film industry. Pick a comedian or select 'Surprise Me' for a random roaster.

Using ProofChain

Your blockchain timestamp is permanent. Once confirmed on the Bitcoin blockchain, it exists forever and can be verified independently by anyone — even if ProofChain ceases to exist. The certificate itself is a record of this timestamp and remains valid indefinitely. There are no renewal fees or expiry dates.

Each product supports the most common formats for its domain. ProofScript supports PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, FDX, and Fountain files. ProofBooks supports PDF, DOC, DOCX, and EPUB. ProofSound supports MP3, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, and ZIP archives of DAW projects. ProofLegal supports PDF, DOC, DOCX, and common document formats. File size limits vary by product and plan.

Yes. You can upload revised versions of your work, and each version gets its own unique blockchain timestamp. The revision history is tracked, showing the complete evolution of your creative work over time. Each revision is a separate timestamp event with its own certificate. There is a discounted price for revisions within 24 hours of the original upload.

Visit proofchain.in/verify. You can verify in three ways: upload the original file (it will be hashed locally and compared), enter the certificate ID printed on your certificate, or paste the SHA-256 hash directly. Verification is completely free and does not require an account. The verification also checks the Bitcoin blockchain proof independently.

Payments & Account

We do not offer refunds. Before completing payment, you are given the opportunity to preview your certificate free of charge. This preview ensures you know exactly what you are paying for before any money changes hands. Credit bundles, where available, are non-refundable but do not expire. Subscription cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period.

Yes. Your files never leave your device — only the cryptographic hash is transmitted. All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest (Google Cloud encryption). We use Firebase Authentication for secure access control. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising cookies, or tracking tools.
